A zero-based budget runs on a four-beat cycle, and every month in Our Konomy follows it: draft, open, close, carry. Learn the cycle and the app is just the record-keeping for it.
Draft — the plan
The month begins as a draft: income, jobs, envelopes, amounts. It is a plan, so it can be changed freely. Nothing in the draft is real money yet — that is the safety.
Open — the life
Opening the month turns the plan into a live ledger. Real income and spending land in the envelopes, transfers move between them, and anything you entered by hand stays editable while the month is open.
Close — the truth
Closing settles every envelope, computes the surplus, and locks the month. A closed month is immutable history — the record your family's finances are built on, and the one thing you will never edit again.
Carry — the bridge
The surplus from the close carries into the next month's draft. That is the zero-based part made real: nothing vanishes, nothing is hidden, and next month starts from what this month actually ended with.
