Funds
A fund is savings with a name and a destination. Not a number in a bank account you are not allowed to touch — an envelope with a goal, funded on a schedule, and spent only when the goal is reached.
Funded by the month, not by willpower
Each fund gets a job in the monthly budget — vacation fund: 300.00. When the month opens, that job is real: the money moves into the fund the same way rent moves out of the month. Consistency replaces heroics.
The fund outlives the month
Funds are not months. Money in the vacation fund in March is still the vacation fund in June — it carries across closes, grows with every contribution, and is never quietly absorbed by the month's surplus.
Spent only on purpose
Withdrawing from a fund is a deliberate move with a record: the vacation is happening, the repair is real. A fund that can be spent without a reason is a bank account, not a fund.
